Subscribing or otherwise bookmarking specific threads

Hi, all, do we have functionality enabled to subscribe to a thread or otherwise set up to follow it? I've been looking for something like that but haven't yet found it.
The FAQs reference using notifications, but I've found a thread in this section that indicates that that functionality is disabled.
Thanks in advance!

Sadly, sadly indeed disabled due to traffic issues.
Check 'Show new replies to your post' up left and it will only show threads with updates, you posted in before. But you have to check the forums. if you use a RSS reader, put the URL of this link in and see it outside the forum. But thats just a workaround for what you (and me) are looking for.

Yeah, I use the "Show new replies" feature, but I was hoping to find something more like a subscription feature, to avoid having to wade through content that I'm not looking for specifically at the time. For example, I had seen the thread on a Kauz, with a sculpt of a female pilot (Miss Gray, I think it was), but couldn't remember where it was and it took a while to find it again. That made me think to look for a subscription feature. Workaround is to post a reply to the thread, I suppose, and then follow it via the "Show new replies" feature.
If SMF includes thread subscription functionality, and it doesn't chew up resources, we should implement it.

I have plenty of space and bandwidth through my host. Where they get you is through individual hits to the database. Think of it this way, each mouse click is an action. Sending out notices is just too much so it is turned off.

I'd rather see you build one than know you pre-ordered two.

Is there functionality that would allow us to subscribe, without receiving notifications? I don't want to receive emails, but if it would be available through our CP's, to see a list of subscribed threads and access them, that would be handy. More like a "favorites" list, in that regard, than subscribing to a thread.
