Hi all, this is my take on the scene on the box of the Wave AFS Mk. 1.
I built the suit to match as close as I could. Replaced the leg hoses with A-Spring. It was painted with Humbrol enamels, with some oil washes and the dudes face in oils. I tried to give him some expression.
The broken Neu was built from some castings off my Nitto kit, plus evergreen tube, wire and other bits and pieces. Engine bells from the Gans. I took this to Model Expo in Melbourne last week, but didn't score with it, high quality competition! Let me know what you think, Geoff

Edit: Fixed the pics (Thanks Turner!)

Awesome little vignette! I like the overall drab feeling, almost like you painted it with sepia tones. Like an old photograph. Also, good job on the 'spotter! The figure looks battle weary, like he's ready to just sit down and let it all end  Undecided.

Nice job on this chap  Smiley, looks pretty damn close to the box lid. AFS suits are still an old favourite of mine as it was the first Ma.K kit I ever got.
His face is good too and I reckon, looking at the result you've got - and others on the forum have achieved with oils - I'm going to have to try my figures with the stuff. I've not really used oils much in the past except for weathering a vehicle but you can play around a hell of a lot with the stuff.

I like the light touch on the wear and tear you gave him. That's my mission for today if time and small kiddies allow.

Dr Robo - Thank you, I was trying to match the dusty subdued look from the box top.
I think the figure picked up some of my fatigue in getting this and some other models ready. Maybe a 1/20 self portrait? I wish I looked that good.

Model Citizen - Thank you!

Leopard - Appreciate your comment!

Turner, thanks for your comment & fixing the pic... still not sure what I did wrong.

Noddy - Thanks for the kind comments. Its only my second attempt at painting a face with oils, but I found it much easier than using enamels. I tried to underdo the wear and tear on the suit as the one on the box is weathered, but not trashed. I stopped well before I normally would, but it looks OK. Good luck with your build

No problem about the pic....

You need to right click and get properties of the pic not the url Smiley

That's darn cool. I like how you chopped the Neuspotter and left out the unnecessary stuff.

Thank you Mr Arno!

Thanks too, MK. I figured the Neu head was either blown off or broke away when it crashed, and I can't see the AG pods in the box pic, so left them off too. Overall I think it works.

Appreciate the feedback Java!

Also, just picked up the original Nitto AFS for $25, it looks very well engineered and detailed too.

I love the way the neuspotter just stops at the edge. I have seen this referred to as "edge of the world" or "laser cut edging" .
Whatever you call it I think it's great. You captured the boxart without being too drab. It still has pop!

As for the comp, another member here cleaned up the category, and deservedly so with some lovely entries. I am happy with the way it turned out, so thats the main thing!
