I took a little break, and this build went on in fits and starts.

Tamiya acrylics, AlClad, Mig washes and pigments, and Tamiya weathering pastels:

Really nice clean build, Ace.  I like the camo pattern.  I'd go for a little heavier weathering on the feet and legs, but that's just personal preference.

I agree about the camo choice and weathering.

Looks good Smiley

When taking pics maybe try and reduce the direct light thats bouncing off the kit.
It's kind of hard to see the camo pattern on the sides due to the specular highlights....

Neil, turner,

Thanks!

The lighting was giving me fits when I was photographing the model. It was actually pretty dim, but I guess the camera compensated for it. The next time I take some pictures, I'll go outside and use natural light with the backdrop - I might reshoot some pics of this Krote.

Nice work, John. The camo pattern is great. The yellow is an excellent choice and smartly mixed in with the rest of the pattern. Wink

If you can make it to the meet up, please bring this guy along.

Did you tint the searchlight? I don't have a Krote, so I don't know. But if you did, how did you do it and nice choice of color.

Very clean, and even kind of elegant for a 4 meter tall walking death machine! I agree with the others on the camo, eye catching and functional. I am a big fan of it.

Thanks, guys! Grin

I posted better pics. The camo didn't thrill me when I shot it. I thought the yellow was way too stark. It washed down nicely, though.

Mumbles,

I tinted the inside of the searchlight lens with Tamiya clear orange.

This was a fun build.

Great color scheme. In fact, I loved it so much, it inspired me to create this custom action figure. Not exactly the same quality of your paint apps but clearly inspired by you. THANKS FOR THE INSPIRATION!!!

EDIT*

I've deleted pics due to realizing that it did appear to be a thread hijacking. My sincerest apologies to the artist here. My honest intention was to let you know that I really drew inspiration from your work here. Thanks again.

What Matt said.

Don't see the "inspiration" here.

No disrespect to Ace for a really nice build and paint job...if a little clean Smiley  Krotes grub around in the dirt, man...they're robot chickens on PCP!

Lance, there's a whole section of this site devoted to models from non-Ma.K genres.  Why not post your stuff, which is quite nice, there?  Was there alcohol involved here?  If so, then all is forgiven  Grin

Just an idea - I go to car boot sales and find cheap-arse costume jewellery. I then clip out the red 'gems' and install them behind inside the searchlight.

The 'gem' facets reflect and disperse any light on them and look really good as a searchlight.

Try it, you'll like it..

PS - Nice Krote.

Can I ask a favour?

Would you make me a list of possible problem areas? (e.g. "watch for part 35, it doesn't fit in before #45, but after it, the plans are wrong there")
Any tips or tricks for this specific model? (Did you have any translation of the plans - the Japanese in the note-boxes regarding the sizes of rods and wires, for e.g.)
Thanks.
