Ok, I'm calling this one done. I know there are probably a few bits that need touchup, but that is for later. Overall I'm pretty happy, turned out like I had in my mind mostly, I learned a few things and got to use the Neuspotter rather than trash it.

That's all kinds of fantastic. It felt ambitious at the start and it ended that way too. I'm impressed with the layout and the suit looks so great. Did you do that car polish or something on the windscreen? It came out so clear.

Oh wowwww. Damn but that AFS looks good. The Neu' is too and looks very nicely and completely trashed but the best bit for me is the burnt ground and fuel tank.

That turned out great Dewby. Nice details and weathering. You did a good job with the burned area and ash.
I also like the barren groundwork. It has a very middle-of-nowhere look to it.

Every single aspect looks great in this work : the crashed Neusp. the AFS, painting, and I really like the groundwork. Congrats and thanks for sharing!

great finish! some of the photographs are great especially the ones with multiple focus planes. There's 3 parts to this build and you nailed them all. great job! (but what I don't understand is how you can go to so many ranger games and still have time to build?)

Watching this from the ground up was a real treat, and seeing it all together is very rewarding. The story is compelling but simple, the composition is first class, and all elements work together seamlessly to recreate the box art without copying it. Everything from your figure to the AFS's subtle weathering, to the 'spotter's damage is very convincing and cleanly executed. Mad kudos to you, sir!

How's about this: http://i3.lulzimg.com/8c4fd30141.jpgToo big to link in post as an image, it's 4000 x ??. I make no claims to this image - it's his, all I've done is oil painted it.

Did you actually oil paint this? Like oil on canvas, or was this done in a photo editing suite? Either way very cool. I dig the brushstrokes.

Thanks.
It's all computer, a combination of a program call FotoSketcher (free and a hell of a lot of fun) and Dynamic AutoPainter (not free but bloody well worth the price) (with a little layer blending in Photoshop, sometimes).
It takes around 10 to 20 mins to set up the various styles and settings and brush strokes, then you let it run and lay down the brush-strokes where you've told it to (with the settings and based on colours/luminosity/etc). It runs for 10 000 to 500 000 stokes, as you want, then you save the image. Total time is about 2 hours, but you can leave it and have dinner.
It's quite interesting to watch it 'painting', laying down the brush-strokes and blending them down (if you told it to), or having the strokes 'run', if you have the watercolour slider set high.

Again, very cool! It's awesome that you know the program well enough to just let it run and go work on something else. I wish I could do that with sanding/priming...
