| NS466 Uhu (Owl) |
| Kit Build:
Torso: This is a simple modification of the Neuspotter kit. I had the idea for a space based Neuspotter. Why not? It's unmanned and is already designed to float around. Build: I built the kit as normal, but skipped the steps for the AG pods, the Arms and the long center pole. The rest is from the spares box. A cast of the Krachenvogal jamming arm, an Oskar missile launcher and armor, Fliege fuel tanks, sensor bulge, and stabilizers were used. The kit rocket bezel was cut off and replaced with Wave parts. Having liked the effect of the rough surface from other builds, I decided to texture the Uhu also. So Mr Surfacer and a stubby brush were at it again. Finish: It was painted with Tamiya acrylics. I wanted to try a solid color scheme with color accents. I did a lot of masking on this model. After the paints had cured, a gloss coat was applied. Decals were applied and a lot of Micro Sol was used to snuggle the decals down. A wash of artist's oils was applied. I then dry brushed to bring out highlights, but kept a light hand to avoid over doing it. Pastels, pinpoint washes and paint chips were used to finish off the weathering. The inside of the rocket cone was first airbrushed White. Yellow was airbrushed afterwards, with concentration of color on the perimeter. Finally orange was focused on the perimeter and feathered to the center. Kinda cool effect. MV Lenses of various sizes were used for the sensor lenses. These were set with white glue. Base: The base is a block of wood from the hobby store. It is covered on 4 sides with textured styrene. The lunar terrain is Celluclay with lava rocks embedded. It was hit first with flat black. The base sides were painted with Dark Grey and the terrain was painted with Medium Gray lightened with White. A wash was applied and highlights were drybrushed on. |
